Goals of the Club

Within the last year and a half, we have also passed a plan which established some goals that would help us to be more widely recognized. They include Scholarships and Leadership Awards. I'll describe each of these as they were originally passed.

Scholarships

We would establish two $1,000 scholarships to be distributed annually. The goal of one is to be used to support children and youth programs. The goal of the second is to assist Legion members seeking to further their education.

For children and youth, the recipient of the scholarship will be based on current Department programs. It will be rotated between the programs (Oratorical, Boy's State Governor, Boy Scout of the Year, ROTC Cadet of the Year, Winner of Shooting Sports in both categories) and will always be in addition to, not in place of, those awarded by Department.

The second, for Legionnaires, will be available to members in good standing of American Legion Posts in the Department of Florida. They will be required to submit an application, along with an essay of no more than two pages, outlining their educational and future goals. A scholarship committee will select the recipient.
